Videos from Miss Nutt
Reception class have raised a phenomenal total of £373.68 this week with their sponsored litter pick, charity tuck shop and upcycling shop. Their attitude has been fantastic and both groups have celebrated their success with a topical movie – The Lorax – and some sweets!
We have given a large amount of this money to the children’s choice of charity WWF by adopting an orangutan, a snow leopard, a polar bear and a gorilla. The children chose these animals themselves. The rest of the money has been used to buy 8 new litter pickers for the school, some animal toys for Year One as well as a gardening set so they can continue this ‘world saving’ attitude in learning on our own in Year One using the woodland area.
I have never been prouder to call them my class!

Work for week 13th July 2020
Dear Parents,
This week we will continue to explore our wonderful world by looking at bees! We will also talk about Year One and what we are looking forward to.
Ideas for activities to enhance this learning:
- Try out the cheesy puff bee science experiment to learn about how bees help by moving pollen.
- Watch the video of Miss Nutt – on the school website – talk to your child about year one and complete one of the activities attached on the website. Transition Worry cloud and sheet
Thank you all for your support this year, it’s been a strange end to a lovely year but I have truly loved teaching your children! I will hopefully see you all in person on Wednesday!
Hope you have a nice Summer break!
Miss Hacking

Week beginning 6th July 2020
Dear Parents,
This week we will continue to explore our wonderful world by looking at endangered animals and the influence of humans on our environment. The children will be completing their fundraising efforts with a litter pick on Monday/Thursday, a charity tuck shop on Tuesday/ Thursday and their own upcycling shop on Tuesday/ Friday. They will then decide what charities or litter picking equipment they would like to spend their money on. If your child is not in school then please take part in a sponsored litter pick at home and have a go at some upcycling – turning something old into something new. To enhance this topic watch the story ‘Tidy’ on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUSQEPbc8Mc Talk to child about what Pete is trying to do, did he realise that he was spoiling their environment?
Ideas for activities to enhance this learning:
- Re-use some junk and upcycle it to turn it into something new – e.g. turn a tissue box into a pencil pot or a jewellery box.
- Make a home for animals in your garden – what kind of animals might live there – hedgehogs, minibeasts, birds
I have also attached a video of Miss Nutt answering your children’s questions into the TEAMS file. It may be useful for you to watch this as well so you can gain an understanding as to what their typical day might look like in Year One.
If your child is in school we will be covering this here but you can repeat the activities at home or use the other activities attached.
Hope you are well,
Miss Hacking

Week beginning 29th June 2020
Dear Parents,
This week we will continue to explore our wonderful world by looking at endangered animals and the influence of humans on our environment. The children will be coming up with their own ideas on how to raise money for charity and we will also be taking part in a sponsored litter pick of the school. If your child is not in school then please take part in a sponsored litter pick at home – the form is on the website for your child to fill in. Please let your child fill in their sponsorship form themselves as this is excellent writing practise as well as a good chance to give them ownership of their learning. To introduce this topic please read ‘Greta and the Giants’ which is on the website and watch the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ha6xUVqezQ. Talk to child about how it makes them feel. What could we do to make a difference? More information on deforestation and plastic in the ocean can be found at:

https://4ocean.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7IPaiLia6gIV1YBQBh26JQvHEAAYASAAEgLwM_D_BwE
Ideas for activities to enhance this learning:
- In your paddling pool or a plastic bowl place any water animals you have and some plastic (bottles, straws) your child could role play saving the animals and clearing out the water.
- Make a poster to put up in their window about what people need to do.
- Write a letter to the local shop or MP asking them to help us use less plastic and palm oil.
- Go on your own sponsored litter pick – remember to wear gloves and recycle what you find!
If your child is in school we will be covering this here but you can repeat the activities at home or use the other activities attached.
Hope you are keeping well,
Miss Hacking

This week we will continue to explore our wonderful world by looking at plants and in particular the life cycle of a dandelion. If your child is not in school then please watch the video https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zhrb4wx and use the life cycle of a dandelion pictures on the website for your child to cut out and order. They could write a word to describe each part e.g. seed, flower, or write a sentence about what is happening. More information on plants can be found on : https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd and https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zyvs34j
Ideas for activities to enhance this learning:
- Go on a flower hunt in the local park or in your garden, take photos or write down the names or draw the plants you find, can you see the stem? Where are the roots? Does it have a flower?
- Can you plant a seed and watch it grow? We are growing sunflowers in school so if you are able to do this at home that would be lovely! Or…for fast results- cress or grass! – See a fun activity below!

Dear Parents,
This week we will continue to explore our wonderful world by looking at minibeasts and in particular the life cycle of a ladybird. If your child is not in school then please read the attached story of “Are you a ladybird?” and ask your child to make a fact file (they can draw, label and write facts) about a ladybird or a minibeast of their choice. More information on minibeasts can be found on : http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z9fkwmn#zwdqy4j.
Ideas for activities to enhance this learning:
- Plan and make a bug hotel for your garden, your child could write down all the minibeasts that live there. What might the minibeasts need? Water, food. How will they get in?
- Go on a bug hunt – you could make a list for your child to read and tick off as they find each bug, talk about the best places to find them – cold, damp, dark places.
- Make your own model of a bug – think about the parts of its body, how many legs does it have? Does it have eyes?
If your child is in school we will be covering this here but you can repeat the activities at home or use the other activities attached.
Next week we will be looking at plants.
Hope you are keeping well,
Miss Hacking
