This week in topic we are comparing Rickmansworth and Southend Beach. Looking at the similarities and differences between them both and writing about them. Remember to focus on the physical and human features of each area.
Science we are learning about the life cycle of a bean plant, just like the one we have planted. Use the PowerPoint to help you fill in the worksheet.
Maths summer activity booklet will be completed this week. Due to the disruption of school we have not yet looked at ‘time’ as a topic so you may choose to go over this with your child or miss the time page out.
English this week we are writing questions to ask Miss Wenham about Year 2 and what to expect. If you come up with any that you would like to ask, please email them to admin. Miss Wenham will answer as many questions as she can.

Science:
This week’s learning objective is ‘To identify the different features of a deciduous tree and how it changes through the seasons’. Please follow the PDF PowerPoint to understand how we can recognise deciduous trees and complete the two worksheets. The first worksheet focuses on labelling the tree, the second is about showing the tree in the different seasons.
Topic:
This weeks topic will be looking on google maps at the satellite of Rickmansworth and surrounding areas and trying to see what we can see (physical and human features). We would have been out collecting data on the different things we can find around Rickmansworth. It is important that we compare how different parts of England have differing features.
Maths:
Maths this week we are looking at fractions in the context of length and finding fraction of a turn using the context of a clock face (handout is needed for this lesson). Please follow the instructions for both the games on the PowerPoints. A written task is available to the last slide.
English:
English this week we are finishing and revising all the suffixes we have learnt over the past weeks. There is a fun fortune teller the children may want to play will attached. PDF PP 1 1a 2 2b
The last suffix the children need to know is -est.

Topic – This week we are focusing on the human and physical features of our local area. We would have been doing field work and having a look around the Aquadrome, the canals and the High Street. If you are able to do this safely, it would be wonderful for the children to see the range of physical and human feature we have in Rickmansworth. If you are unable to, do not worry you can complete the worksheet.
Science
This week’s science we are looking at garden flowers. Please have a look in your own garden to see if you have any common garden flowers. The science worksheet is about including some of the garden flowers we have learnt about and drawing them into your own garden.

It will be beneficial to go over what a verb and noun is. We have a song to help remember (hopefully your child will remember the tune)

Topic: This week’s topic task, we are looking at the Lake District and you will need to find the human and physical features.
Science: We are learning about what plants need to grow. To do this we are going to plant our own bean plant. The things you will need will be dropped to your door if you have not come back to school. Have a look through the instructions to help with planting. Please read through the PowerPoint to support the learning. There is also a diary that you can write in to help you keep track of your plants growth.

English:
This week we will be looking at the book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. Our first lesson will be a prediction (sensible guess) of the story. Can you look at the pictures to help you see Max’s emotions, use these to help your prediction. Your child may want to discuss this with you like we might do in class and then write it out. After you have read the story there is a book review to fill out. It looks at settings, characters and what happens in the story. You also have a chance to rate the book.

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a lovely half term.
Below is the work for those children not attending school. We will be covering all of these topics at school. If your child is attending school and you would like to do research about these areas, feel free, however, some of the worksheets will be the same as what we are doing in school. If you would like to do extra at home after or before your child is in school please look on websites such as Phonics Play, Twinkl, Top Marks and of course keep reading with them. We will be looking at the maths topic ‘capacity’ this week. It will benefit your child if you can look at capacity first hand, find how different container sizes can differ but they hold the same amount of water.

Topic:
This week
at school we would have been looking at a compass and how we use them to locate features on a map. Looking at North, South, East and West, where would you find the capital cities of each UK country in relation to your house. Can you have a look on a compass and experiment moving around and seeing which direction you are going in? Resource
Extension: Have a look at Rickmansworth on a map. Can you find popular landmarks and see which direction you will need to go in to get to them from your house?
Science:
This week we would have been observing the season we are in and describing the changes that have occurred. What happens in spring and the things that we associate with spring.
I have attached a revision sheet from our topic ‘Animals including Humans’.
English:
This week we will be looking at the traditional tale ‘Hansel and Gretel’.
Complete as many of the character descriptions as you can. Remember to focus on the characters personality and appearance. Can you come up with an alternative ending for the story? Create a story board for the story, sequencing the events that happened. Remember to do the writing first and then add the illustrations afterward.

Creative writing – choose one of the prompts from this set to do each day. Remember to sit at a table and have a sharp pencil, as it helps keep your writing neat. Also remember; what do you need to use to start a sentence, between words and at the end of the sentence. Ask whoever is helping you for key word spellings and make your own word mats with them on so you can use another time. Talk to them about your ideas first if it helps, then have a go on your own. Use a book, with lines on, if you can’t print the things out.
