Week beginning 13th July 2020 – Japan
Here are some activities for you to have a go at if you are not joining us in school this week. In school, we are learning all about Japan. You can find all the resources and PowerPoints to help you below.
2. Get crafty making the Japanese flag in any way you wish. |
3. Use an Atlas or the internet to help label cities of Japan onto the map. |

4. Use the base of an empty plastic bottle to dip in pink and white paint to create your own cherry blossom art. If you have tissue available, you could scrunch it up and paint it pink. |
5. Learn how to draw Manga characters and create comic strip using your characters. |
6. Learn how to make origami. |
7. Have a go at learning some Japanese phrases and words, including numbers. |
8. Learn how to write your name using Japanese symbols. |

11. Make a Japanese lantern using coloured card.

Week beginning 6th July 2020 – MEXICO
Here are some activities for you to have a go at if you are not joining us in school this week. In school, we are learning all about Mexico. You can find all the resources and PowerPoints to help you below.

3. Relax with the Mexican colouring sheets. |

8.Learn about the festival Cinco de Mayo and create your own Mexican sombrero using card or a paper plate and a paper cup. Get creative and paint/decorate your sombrero. |

Maths online 9.10 to 9.30 – We will be continuing our new topic of decimals.
English online 11.25 to 11.45 and Guided Reading
We will continue reading ‘The Nothing to see here Hotel’ by Steven Butler. This will also be your guided reading, as you will miss me reading it to you. We are up to chapter 13. Prince Grogbah is making his presence felt in the hotel, and I don’t think he is too popular!
Topic
Our investigation into Italy continues, with a closer look at the volcanoes of Italy. You can have a go at making your own model volcano and producing an information leaflet about the city of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.
Art – This week is a very popular modern artist, although no one knows who he is! It is all about Banksy. He paints fairly simple pictures that are statements about what he feels is going on around him in the world. Paint a picture about something you feel strongly about in the style of Banksy. Pleases share your results with us all!
Science — Plants – By now, your bean seeds have started to grow and you will be able to record how they get on. This week the science finds out if plants need food and nutrition, and how they manage to get it.

Art – This week is one of my favourite artists, Andy Goldsworthy. He produces amazing sculptures which he then photographs, I have included some examples of his work which you could try to reproduce and photograph too. Pleases share your results with us all!
Science — Plants. Hopefully, your bean seeds will start to grow and you will be able to record how they get on. I will get your seeds and instructions to each of you, f you don’t have a glass jar you could also use a clear plastic cup. The second experiment is to see how water moves through the plant, as if by magic!

We are really back into the swing of things now! Even I am getting the hang of online teaching!

Topic – Looking at a country in detail, all about Italy. We will spend a few weeks finding out more about Italy and compare it with the UK. Slide 1 Work 1
Art – Each week we will look at a different European artist. This week we are looking at art by Salvador Dali who was Spanish. He was a surrealist, which means that his art was dreamlike and very imaginative. You can produce a surreal piece of art, the stranger the better! Photopack Prompt questions activity

Maths online 9-10 to 9-30 – We will be continuing the areas of multiplication and division, so brush up on your times tables as you are going to need them!
English online 11.25 to 11.45 – We are coming towards the end of ‘Atlas of Adventures’ and this week working towards constructing an information leaflet.
Topic – We will continue looking at the continent of Europe. I have given you a lot to do this week, so it will probably go over two weeks to complete. It includes looking at the European Union, and I wonder if the UK is in or out?

Art
Each week we will look at a different European artist. This week we are examining Antoni Gaudi. There is some information about him for you to look at. One of his art forms is a type of mosaic called ‘Trencadis’, it is a beautiful one to look at and fun to recreate too. Have you visited the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, this is an amazing piece of architecture designed by Gaudi.
Science – Light and Dark
The science is very apt at the moment, sun safety! The sunshine outside is glorious as I write this out! You need to think about how to keep safe in the sun, and why sunlight can be dangerous for you.

Guided Reading
I have two passages for you to read and answer questions about. One is on the topic of the coast and the other is moving from a town to the countryside.

Summer Week 5 – 18th May 2020 – I hope you are enjoying our topic all about Europe!
Maths online 9.10-9.30 – We will be continuing our new topic area of multiplication. Each day I will put the power point on Teams and some tasks for you to complete.
English online 11.25 – 11.45 – We will continue travelling around the world using ‘Atlas of Adventures .
Topic – We are looking at land use in the United Kingdom and where the population around the country is dense or sparse. I have given you some other countries too, you can compare the population with what the land looks like.

Art – This week we are looking at an Italian artist called Michelangelo (not the ninja turtle!) . He is famous for painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. He had to lie on his back to do the painting, and had a team of workmen to help him in his work. Have a go at drawing, or painting, on your back with the paper taped underneath a table! You might like to get your family to be your workmen to help you!
Science – Light and Dark – The third lesson continues from reflective surfaces by looking at mirrors and how they can reflect light and images. You can try mirror writing and drawing.

Hello everyone in year 3! We have survived the first week of online lessons, whoo! Thank you all for your patience as we all get to grips with this new technology.
Maths online 9.10 to 9.30 – We will be continuing our work on fractions. Each day I will put the PowerPoint on Teams and some tasks for you to complete.
English online 11.25 to 11.45 – We will continue travelling around the world using ‘Atlas of Adventures’.
Topic – We are beginning to look at different European countries in more depth, starting with France. I have put some information on the website for you, but feel free to research yourself about France. Look at the geography, jobs, weather, places to visit and so on. Make a poster, booklet , PowerPoint or fact file to show everything you have learned.

Art – This week we are looking at a type of art called Fauvism, this was produced in particular by Henri Matisse, a French painter. I have put some examples of Fauvism art, they look rather strange! Can you produce a portrait or a scene using this style?
Science – Light and Dark. The second lesson is reflective surfaces. Have a go at testing different items in your house to see if they reflect light or not, some things will be better than others! Then design a bag that has reflective surfaces for safety. Choosing activity Testing activity Planning
Guided reading – There is a reading passage about food in the WW2, it is linked to VE Day celebrations. Read the passage and complete the comprehension and SPAG activities. You could even have a go at cooking one of the recipes!

We will be revisiting our work on fractions from last term There is a PowerPoint we will be going through on Monday in class files on Teams and some tasks for you to try at home.

We will be starting to look at a new book, “Atlas of Adventures”. The PowerPoint will be on Teams in class files. There is a passport for you to make that you can record each country we visit as we read through the book.

We will be starting to look at continents around the world so there is some information for you to read and some maps to fill in. There is also a quiz to see how much information you can remember.

Art
Each week we will look at a different European artist. This week we are starting with Claude Monet. There is some information about him for you to look at. He liked to draw the same scene in different lights. Why don’t you try drawing something outside in the morning and then drawing the same scene nearer night time or when it is cloudy? Science — Light and Dark
The first lesson is identifying things in the dark. Ask someone to hide objects in bags and see if you can find out what they are just by feeling them! There are some other ideas too; sorting items that give light or don’t give light and writing down what you know about light.
